Sometimes the BiliDx needs to be calibrated. This allows the device to check its sensors and adjust its readings to ensure it gives accurate bilirubin measurements.

After every 25 uses, the BiliDx will prompt you to run a calibration test.

If you continue to use the BiliDx without running the calibration, after 50 uses, it will stop working until the test is done.

You will know that a calibration test is due when you turn on the device and see the word “CAL” displayed on the screen.

You can also choose to run a calibration test at any time by pressing and holding the measurement button until it reads “CAL.” You may need to do this if you are getting unexpected or inconsistent results when using the BiliDx.

To run a calibration test, take a new test strip out of its packaging and close it without adding a blood sample.

While “CAL” is showing on the BiliDx screen and the light is green, you can slide the test strip in and click it securely into place.

Make sure you push it the right way around. The curve on the test strip should match up with the curve in the device. After a few seconds, the screen should display the word “DONE.” This means the calibration has been successful.

The device should then display “GO” and be ready to use for further blood tests.

If you see error 40 code on the screen, there has been a problem with calibration, which will need to be investigated further.

When the calibration test is complete, remove the test strip and throw it away.
