If the Diamedica Baby CPAP is overheating or the fan has stopped spinning, there may be a problem with the fan unit.

The fan is positioned inside the back of the CPAP machine, near the bottom. If the fan makes a sound but is not spinning, it is likely the motor has burned out, and the fan unit will need to be replaced.

To get into the fan unit, you will need the machine to be switched off and unplugged at the wall. Remove the fan using a T15 Torx screwdriver. There are four screws to undo in each of the corners of the fan.

One of the screws also attaches a cable tie that holds a hose in position. You can simply undo the screw and move the hose and tie to one side. You don’t need to open the cable tie itself.

Now, you can lift out the metal guard. Note which way the guard is positioned; it will need to be put back the same way round.

Next, you can lift out the fan unit, but it will still be attached by wires.

First, inspect the connections around the unit. Look for any wires that might have come loose or which are burnt or damaged.

Now, detach each of the wires, the black live and the white neutral from the unit. Is there a heavy buildup of dust and dirt? If the fan has been making a sound but struggling to spin, you might simply need to clean it with a damp cloth and dry it.

If there is nothing visibly wrong with the fan, you can test the electrical circuit. You will need a multimeter set to resistance mode. Place the multimeter prongs against each of the metal pins on the fan unit.

Here, we see a reading of around 0.7 kilo ohms. This tells us that the resistance is fine. If you get a reading which is much higher or an OL reading, the fan unit will need to be replaced.

Next, you will need to put the fan unit back or install a new one. It is important that this is placed the right way round. Look for the sideways arrows that show the direction of airflow. The other arrow shows the direction of the blades.

The fan should be positioned with the airflow arrow pointing down so that the fan draws hot air downwards and out of the machine. Also, check that the fan unit is rotated the right way, with the wire sockets facing you.

Carefully lower the fan unit into place, then plug the two wires back.

Next, you will need to put the fan guard back into position. Put the screws back into each of the corners of the guard. You will need to line up the cable tie holding the hose to get the screw into place.

Now, turn on the machine and check whether the problem has been resolved.
