The water trap is located inside the machine at the back on the left-hand side. This component captures water and particles in the air coming from the compressor, stopping these from reaching the air circuit for the baby.

You should check and empty this filter regularly to keep the CPAP working safely and effectively.

To remove the water trap, you will need to undo the mounting bracket, which holds it in place. Use a spanner to hold the nut still and a Phillips screwdriver to undo the screw.

Next, remove the two tubes at the sides. Press in the push-fit ring and pull each tube out.

Now, you can twist off the water chamber at the bottom of the water trap. You should pour away any water that has collected in the chamber.

Carefully check the top part of the water trap. Look for signs of damage, such as cracking, and whether there is a build-up of dirt.

You can take out the diaphragm inside the water trap to check and clean it. Carefully dislodge it using an object such as a screwdriver, then tip it out of the chamber.

You might need to use tweezers to help pull it out.

Now, you can access the chamber to clean it. You could use a cloth and a pointed tool such as fine-point pliers to clean thoroughly inside. Also, clean all around the diaphragm with a cloth.

You should also clean the top section of the water trap.

If you find any signs of damage in any parts of the water trap, such as cracks, it is best to replace the unit with a new one. When all the parts of the water trap are clean and dry, reassemble it.

You can use fine-point pliers and a cloth to pinch the top of the diaphragm and press it back down into position in the chamber. Then screw the top section back on.

To put the water trap back or install the new one, first reattach the two tubes. Check that these are arranged the same way round as when you removed them. The arrow should point towards the outlet tube. Then place the component back into position, lining up the mounting bracket hole.

Secure the screw and nut by hand, then fully tighten them using your Phillips screwdriver and spanner.
